Jämtland June 2018

This June we spent 10 days fishing in  Jämtland, my home county.  In this story I will tell you all about it and try to give you an image of what it was like, but most importantly... I will tell you about the beautiful fishes we caught. A hand full of small ones The first stop this trip was to a beautiful stream that I keep close to my heart. It's a fishing spot that I've been visiting since I was a child and probably will cherish until I'm old and dusty. The river is about 50 to 100 meters wide, slowly slithering down through the forest beneath the mountains like a big blue, shiny snake. As most of you know, most fishing spots are personal secrets and we fishermen don't give out information about these streams to just anyone. These locations are something you share only among family and close friends. Although I can tell you that this is a stream which is a part of Indalsälven near the popular ski resort Åre in the west part ...

Icefishing and freeskiing in the untouched wilderness Pt:3

The last chance The third morning came and we got up even earlier than the day before. Some of us were eager to catch more fish but Jacob had another thing on his mind. He wanted to get to the top he set out to climb the day before, when he got lost in the woods. After a couple of hours of fishing with just a couple of graylings on the ice, caught by Otto, Jacob got up and said "screw this, I'm going to reach that top!"  He left his fishing gear on the ice and started moving towards the woods. Me and Otto kept fishing, drilling hole after hole in the ice but not a single fish seemed to be interested in our lures.  Jacob disappeared in to the thick wall of pine trees never too be seen again... Well at least not for a couple of hours. "Can you still hear me?" About thirty minutes after Jacob had disappeared into the woods he called on the radio just to check if he could still reach us. We confirmed that we could hear him loud and clear so he pro...

Skins "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" the alarms went off at 06:00 the following morning. All three of us was a bit worn out from the previous night. When the evening came the night before it got really dark, and what do three guys do when they have to pass time in a cabin way of the grid? They play cards and drink beer of course. At least that’s what we did. But we knew that we were going to get up early the next morning so we tried not to drink too much and stay up too late. But we could still feel it as we pulled our selves up from our comfortable beds, and started getting ready for a day on the ice. The sun had just risen above the pine trees and was spreading light all over the surrounding mountains. It was -22 degrees outside and the air was still. My beard got covered in frost almost instantly. Lovely! We packed the most of our gear into a sledge and started moving towards the other side of the lake. There we left the sledge at the fishing spot and kept moving towards t...

"The skies were clear and the wind was glistening with it's absence. With the skis on our feet and our backpacks equipped we started to advance towards the cabin. Carefully dodging every tree and rock in our way, we shortly arrived. There she stood, popping out from the chest deep snow like a brown piece of Lego in a sea of white pillows"       I know that in our first draft I wrote that our first real post would cover a trip to the Swedish west coast were we would be chasing sea trout. But you are now going to read about clear blue skies, frozen beards, freeskiing and ice fishing for brown trout instead. But thou shall not worry. We will still be chasing sea trout later this spring. Coffee crisis Here Jacob is waxing his skis before we hit the road.    Before we went to the mountain lake where we were going to stay for the upcoming days we prepared our skis.  We applied wax for 12 to 16- Celsius in hope that it would not be to cold. ...

Good day! We are three guys who loves fly fishing and hiking more than anything and recently we decided to share our stories from the wild with the world. We will post everything from flies that we have tied to elaborated stories from our trips with pictures and videos. Although it being very early in the season we wont be able too post much for a while. We might share some lighter material, maybe some memories from earlier summers but the first real post will probably arrive in the beginning of May and it will cover our trip to the Swedish west coast where we will try to catch some sea trout!    So keep your eyes peeled for some good ol' fish readin'!       /Team Caddis
